At the Monroe County YMCA, we believe every journey begins with a single step. Whether you’re new to walking or running, returning after time away, or working toward a new personal goal, our Endurance Training Group welcomes participants of all experience levels.

Train in a positive, encouraging environment where friendships are formed, goals are celebrated, and every accomplishment matters. Together, we’ll help you build healthy habits, improve your endurance, and prepare for 5K, 10K, and longer-distance events at a pace that’s right for you.

Run & Walk Training Program

Whether you’re taking your first steps toward a healthier lifestyle or training for your next race, the YMCA Run & Walk Training Program is designed to help you reach your goals. In our supportive, no-drop environment, participants of all abilities are encouraged, challenged, and celebrated every step of the way.

Program Features

  • Welcoming to runners and walkers of all fitness and experience levels.
  • Supportive group training—no one gets left behind.
  • Expert coaching to improve running and walking efficiency, endurance, and confidence.
  • Training plans available for 5K, 10K, half marathon (13.1 miles), and marathon (26.2 miles) distances.
  • Weekly strength and resistance training designed specifically for runners and walkers to improve performance and reduce the risk of injury.
  • Please note: Half marathon race registration is not included with program enrollment.

Endurance Training Program

Whether you’re preparing for your first endurance event or looking to improve your performance, the YMCA Endurance Training Program provides the coaching, support, and community to help you achieve your goals. Participants of all fitness and experience levels are welcome, and our no-drop philosophy ensures everyone is encouraged to train at their own pace.

Program Features

  • Welcoming to participants of all experience and fitness levels.
  • Supportive, no-drop group training where everyone is encouraged to succeed.
  • Swim coaching focused on stroke technique, endurance, and speed.
  • Open water swim training to build confidence and prepare for race conditions.
  • Group bike rides emphasizing cycling safety, endurance, and speed (weather permitting).
  • Walk/run coaching to improve technique, pacing, endurance, and speed.
  • Walk/run training plans for 5K, 10K, half marathon (13.1 miles), and marathon (26.2 miles) distances.
  • Bike training opportunities ranging from 10 miles to 30+ miles.
  • Weekly strength and resistance training designed specifically to support endurance athletes and reduce the risk of injury.

Saturdays: 8:00 AM
Bike and Walk/Run Training
During the warmer months, Saturday sessions begin at 7:00 AM to help participants train in cooler temperatures.

Train alongside a supportive community, build confidence across multiple disciplines, and work toward your personal endurance goals—whether you’re completing your first 5K, tackling a marathon, or preparing for a multisport event.
